Hampton Inn approved for Lewiston

A proposed 90-room Hampton Inn in Lewiston has received its final planning board approval and is set to break ground in September. The hotel, built by developer Parallax Partners, should open by summer 2013.

The $10 million, four-story hotel will be located on a one-acre lot on Lincoln Street where the R.I. Mitchell and Vincent Fruits buildings used to be, according to the Sun Journal. It will be marketed as a less-expensive alternative to the Hilton Garden Inn Riverwatch hotel in Auburn. Chris Thompson of the Lewiston development group said it's finalizing its financing with lenders.

According to MaineToday Media, Thompson is also one of the people behind the $105 million Forefront at Thompson's Point project, a multi-use development that will include an event center, hotel, restaurant and office space. Parallax also owns the Hilton in Auburn, according to the Sun Journal.

The hotel is part of a larger Riverfront Island Master Plan, which the planning board also approved last week. That plan also focuses on tying the Lewiston Riverwalk, a walking trail along the canals, to housing, restaurants and office space.
