Pika takes $30K in Gorham Savings competition

Pika Energy has won $30,000 in a business plan competition sponsored by Gorham Savings Bank that the company says will help it move into a commercial facility to further develop its residential wind turbine products this summer.

The Bangor Daily News reported the company plans to stay in the vicinity of Gorham and Portland but is actively looking for a suitable commercial facility.

The company's victory in Gorham Savings' LaunchPad contest came through scrutiny of business plans by panels of judges and a final community vote that put Pika above the other finalists that included the Brunswick-based Atayne and Green Bee Soda.

All three companies received roughly 6,000 votes during the course of final voting in the contest.
