Passadumkeag wind project gets final OK

A 14-turbine wind project on Passadumkeag Mountain, in Penobscot County, got final approval from the state’s Board of Environmental Protection Thursday. The decision overturns an initial rejection by the Department of Environmental Protection, which said the project’s construction would harm the landscape around neighboring Saponac Pond.

The Bangor Daily News reported the unanimous BEP vote now allows Penobscot Forest LLC and Passadumkaeg Windpark LLC, a subsidiary of the Texas-based Quantum Utility Generation, to move ahead with the project.

Gov. Paul LePage said in March that he was “deeply disappointed” with the board’s decision to allow the project and overturn environmental regulators’ initial rejection of the project.
