Cervone resigns post at Maine Development Foundation

In a surprise announcement, the Maine Development Foundation's board of directors announced Friday the resignation of  Edmund J. Cervone as CEO and president.

Cervone joined MDF in 2007 as the director of the Maine Economic Growth Council. He was appointed MDF's CEO and president in October 2012, replacing longtime organization chief Laurie Lachance. The resignation is effective Sept. 23, according to a release, which said Cervone is leaving for personal reasons.

“For over six years, Ed has been a valuable member of the MDF team and successfully led the organization through a period of transition and growth over the last year after being named CEO and president” said MDF Chairman Aldo Servello in the release. “Although we will miss Ed’s leadership, creativity and drive at MDF, we understand and appreciate the value of family commitment and fully support Ed’s decision to begin a new chapter in his life.”

A search for his replacement has begun and a transition plan is under way, according to the release. The foundation supports economic, work force, leadership and community development statewide.
