Hulit to leave SBA, lead Northeast Bank division

A former Maine economic development official who rose to the top rank of the U.S. Small Business Administration announced Thursday she plans to return to the private sector as the head of the Northeast Community Banking Division at Northeast Bank.

In a letter to SBA staff, Jeanne Hulit wrote that she will start at the bank Feb. 17, stepping down from the Cabinet-level post as the SBA’s acting administrator. Before becoming the SBA’s regional administrator for New England, Hulit had served as a senior vice president for commercial lending at Citizens Bank and as a deputy director of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development.

President Obama has named Marianne Markowitz as the acting administrator of the SBA while the U.S. Senate considers confirming nominee Maria Contreras-Sweet for the position previously held by Karen Mills of Brunswick.
