Panel to meet on passenger rail expansion

The 13-member Maine Passenger Rail Advisory Council will meet for the second time Wednesday, working toward the criteria it will use for prioritizing possible new routes for passenger rail lines.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Sue Moreau, manager of multi-modal planning and operations at the Maine Department of Transportation, and Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority Executive Director Patricia Quinn, will lead the group formed by the LePage administration.

Moreau told the newspaper that the committee’s work on an expansion plan could help the state win federal dollars for future rail projects.

State officials said that having representatives in the group from different parts of the state will also help decipher the complex system of federal rail funding and help explain the committee’s eventual system for prioritizing rail projects the state pursues.
