Auburn Manufacturing goes toe-to-toe with Chinese textile producers
The Mechanic Falls-based textile company Auburn Manufacturing Inc. has filed petitions with both the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission asking that anti-dumping and countervailing duties be imposed on China due to its trade practices with silica fabric.
AMI is the largest manufacturer of the industrial fabric in the United States. According to the company’s allegations against Chinese manufacturers, it has had cuts in production, profits and revenue due to the unfair low prices and unfair subsidies that have been given to Chinese manufacturers.
According to the Portland Press Herald, AMI is the principal supplier of silica to the U.S. Navy and the increased military purchases of the imported fabric violates laws that requires military purchases primarily to come from domestic manufacturers.
