Kennebec Valley Inn to boost downtown Skowhegan

The Kennebec Valley Inn in downtown Skowhegan is getting a new lease on life, with plans to open a country-western-themed lounge and restaurant by April 15, the Morning Sentinel reported.

Mike Kresge, a bartender at the inn in the 1980s, and his wife Annette are leasing the historic 1904 building from owners Dale and Eunice Thorpe. The inn was established in 1985, then underwent name and operator changes, interspersed with periods of vacancy. It was last open in 2011, as a weekend dance club called Rumors.

Mike Kresge told the paper that the inn’s downtown location, with a municipal parking lot next door, should be a boon to business.

“We’re looking for the people that came in here when it was the KVI, maybe come with their kids who have heard about the KVI. We tossed around a lot of names and we wanted to bring it back to the Kennebec Vally Inn,” Kresge said.
