Casco Bay Island Ferry Service nabs $296K grant for parking upgrades

It’s about to get a whole lot easier to find parking among the hustle and bustle of the Casco Bay Island Ferry Service in Portland.

U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the terminal has been awarded a grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation for parking garage improvements.

“This funding to help make improvements to the parking garage at the Casco Bay Lines terminal is welcome news,” the senators said in a joint statement. “Casco Bay Lines transports nearly one million passengers per year and is a vital link for island residents and tourists traveling between the islands and the mainland. These types of investments are essential for ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure at this important transportation hub are properly maintained.”

The $296,571 grant, which will be distributed to the City of Portland, was selected on a competitive basis through the Fiscal Year 2015/16 Passenger Ferry Program.
