Sebago Brewing, Liquid Riot spark 'Bonfire Spirit' whiskey-style beer

Sebago Brewing and Liquid Riot Bottling are collaborating on a new brew that aims to light the fire of craft brew lovers looking for a new taste.

Called Bonfire Spirit, it will be made in small batches and will be available in limited quantities later this month, according to the Portland Press Herald. The idea, the newspaper said, is to ride the trend of Maine’s collaborative culture while doing business that benefits both parties.

“From a business standpoint, we’re looking to grow our brand and get some recognition. So it makes sense to work with somebody else who’s going to get recognition and point people your way,” Liquid Riot co-founder Eric Michaud told the Press Herald.

Bonfire Spirit, which is distilled from leftover Sebago beer to produce a whiskey-like liquor, is 90 proof and caramel-colored. It can’t be labeled a whiskey because it doesn’t meet the federal definition of whiskey, the newspaper said.
