A call to action for Old Town, Orono about high-speed connectivity
Officials in Orono and Old Town are taking to the web to survey residents and area businesses about where the lines of an expanded high-speed internet offering should be located within the communities.
The expanded service offering would see both communities, in partnership with the University of Maine, connected to the 1,100-mile, fiber-optic high speed network known as the Three-Ring Binder, the Bangor Daily News reported.
“The purpose of having this infrastructure in our community is to bolster existing businesses that can take advantage of this connectivity and to attract and foster entrepreneurs, students and recent graduates to create new businesses and enterprises that rely on high-bandwidth connectivity,” the survey post stated, according to the BDN.
Currently, the installation of the high-speed internet is slated to begin in summer 2017, with the BDN reporting that the project will be finished the following summer.
