Gas prices in Maine continue downward trend

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the state dropped two cents to $2.32, continuing the dropping price trend in recent weeks.

During that same period, the average national price for a gallon of gas dropped by eight cents to $2.26, according to the popular price-tracking website GasBuddy.

The $2.32 statewide average reported on Tuesday afternoon is higher than both New Hampshire's average $2.22 price per gallon and Vermont's average price of $2.31 per gallon.

"While prices have come down, we now head to the time of year when hurricane season enters the picture. In the last couple of years we have seen minimal to no disruption as hurricane season largely went by with no major storms that hit land,” Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com, said in a release. “Should we see a major hurricane enter the Gulf, gas prices may react. For the week ahead, expect much of the country to see prices continue to trickle lower while the Great Lakes states may see their first price increase in weeks as stations have undercut each other to the point where they begin losing money.”
