Ellsworth's largest housing project proposal headed to council
A Portland-based development firm will be pitching a proposal to the Ellsworth City Council on Monday night for the construction of a 50-unit affordable workforce housing project behind a shopping center on Washington Street.
The Ellsworth American reports that firm behind the proposal, which would be the largest housing project in the city if it gets the go-ahead, is Manx Development LLC, which is owned by Matt Teare, of the Portland-based Developers Collaborative. Kevin Bunker, also of the collaborative is the development consultant of the proposed project.
The housing project would involve the construction of 11 buildings on 4.67 acres of land that would have to be purchased from DK Ellsworth Shopping Center LLC, the owners of the nearby shopping center that is home to both a Renys and Shaw’s supermarket, the American reports.
“These new homes are proposed to be constructed in a series of multi-family buildings that typically range in size from four to eight apartments,” the developers wrote in their proposal to Ellsworth city officials, the American reports. “A community building will be constructed at the neighborhood core. This new neighborhood is envisioned to fill a critical need for affordable housing for members of the community who work in Ellsworth and the surrounding area.”
