Officials from the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority say the creation of 1,200 new jobs at Brunswick Landing is double the number of jobs originally projected to be created at the former home of the Brunswick Naval Air Station at this stage of its redevelopment.

According to The Forecaster, The Matrix Consulting Group projected that approximately 325 new jobs would be created by the fifth anniversary of the base's closure in April and 450 jobs by the end of August.

MRRA Executive Director Steve Levesque told The Forecaster that the recent openings of the call center firm SaviLinx and e-commerce site Wayfair at Brunswick Landing were both major contributors to topping the initial projections.

As Mainebiz reported in May, the two companies are expected to create a combined 1,000 jobs at the business campus.

Levesque also told The Forecaster that a true testament to the success of Brunswick Landing will be when the campus surpasses the economic contributions of the naval air station. By that standard, Brunswick Landing is a little more than halfway to that goal.

According to The Forecaster, using total payroll at the campus as an indicator of economic contribution, the current payroll is $70 million to $80 million, compared to the annual payroll of approximately $140 million when the Brunswick Naval Air Station was open.
