Wilton gets nod to apply for $150K development grant

The town of Wilton will get another chance to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to improve the facades of downtown businesses.

The Sun Journal reported that the town was approved to apply for the $150,000 grant and will do so before the April deadline. Town Manager Rhonda Irish filed a letter of intent for the filing last month, and told the town’s Board of Selectpersons about the move on Jan. 17.

Wilton applied for the grant, which comes at no cost to the town, last year, but the program was out of money.

The grant also would include some inside work and could be used for new or existing buildings along Main and Depot streets from Main Street to Route 2, according to Irish.

A project that costs $14,000, for example, would provide a business with half the amount in grant money, with the business having to match the rest.
