Reports: Children's Museum hopes to move to Thompson's Point

The Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine is at capacity and has its sights on Thompson's Point in Portland, according to two news sources.
WGME-TV and the Forecaster are reporting that the museum wants to build a museum twice the size of its current location at 142 Free St., next to the Portland Museum of Art.
Suzanne Olson, executive director of the Children’s Museum, told WGME-TV that the museum “has outgrown its Free Street facility and is bursting at the seams. Our staff, board and stakeholders agree that the time is right to relocate to a new, purpose-built space.”
Chris Thompson, a principal for the $110 million Forefront at Thompson’s Point development, told the station the museum hopes to make the move by 2020.
The museum hosted 114,000 visitors in 2016.
Much work remains to be done, though. Olson told the Forecaster that the museum is in the “early stages of a major fundraising campaign.”
Thompson’s Point is home to Bissell Bros., Stroudwater Distillery, Big Room Studios, Color Me Mine, Tree of 40 Fruit, Cellardoor Winery, the International Cryptozoology Museum, Circus Maine and the Rink at Thompson’s Point, according to its website.
