Ellsworth hot spot Jordan’s finds new owners

Jordan’s Snack Bar, a popular Ellsworth eatery that closed in April, has been purchased by a couple from southern Maine with Ellsworth roots.

The Ellsworth American reported that Katie and Scott Kenny plan to have the business back open by mid- to late August. He told the paper they face a hurdle, opening mid-summer, in finding staff. Scott Kenny grew up in the Ellsworth area, was raised in the restaurant business and worked in the beverage industry.

Business leaders said the purchase was positive for Ellsworth.

“The chamber has certainly heard from many, many people how much they miss that location being open,” Gretchen Wilson, executive director of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, told the weekly newspaper.

Jordan's closed April 15 due to a death in the family. Carol and Jimmy Jordan started it after purchasing an established take-out restaurant in 1981 and it remained a family affair, with sons Shawn and Michael working in the kitchen and Carol's mother "Grammy" washing dishes. It’s been a seasonal hot spot for locals and tourists alike, who line up at the takeout window for traditional Downeast fare like lobster rolls as well as to enjoy the arcade, playground and "Wednesday Night Cruise-Ins" offering local music, dancing and a car show.
