PUC sets hearing on Northern Utilities’ proposed rate hike

Maine Public Utilities Commission will hold a public hearing on Oct. 12 regarding Northern Utilities Inc.’s proposed 7.1% rate increase.

The hearing will take place at the University of Southern Maine’s Abromson Center, 88 Bedford St., Portland, and will begin at 6 p.m.

On May 31, Northern Utilities (d/b/a Unitil) filed a proposed rate increase with the PUC requesting approval for an almost $6 million hike in the total revenue requirement for its distribution operations.

The Oct. 12 public witness hearing will give people the opportunity to provide sworn testimony as evidence in the case, which the PUC expects to decide in the first quarter of 2018. The public also can provide testimony submitted without being sworn but unsworn testimony would not be allowed as evidence in the case, according to the PUC.
