After being named a “top young professional”  in New England earlier this year by Engineering News-Record, Tilson President and CEO Joshua Broder has been named to the national magazine's inaugural list of America’s “Top 20 Under 40” professionals in commercial engineering and construction.

Engineering News-Record has been the magazine of record for stakeholders in engineering and construction industries since 1917.

Broder, a former U.S. Army Signal Officer, was the only “Top Young Professional” honoree from the New England region to make this year’s national “Top 20 Under 40” list. He was originally nominated for his role in numerous broadband infrastructure initiatives, including The Three Ring Binder Project; the deployment of ultra-fast LTE cellular systems for several carriers; smart metering and grid automation networks at utilities throughout the Northeast; and other efforts to bring internet access to unserved and underserved communities.

Engineering News-Record Deputy Editor Scott Blair the Top 20 leaders were selected from more than than 400 nominations in all 50 states plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. “A brand-new panel of judges reviewed the top-scoring regional candidates to pick a national Top 20 list that represented the pinnacle of leadership skills, community service and diversity of the construction industry,” he said.

Major achievements that factored into Broder’s selection included:

  • Growing Tilson’s workforce from 10 employees in Maine to over 360 nationally.
  • Expanding Tilson’s nationwide presence by opening 14 regional offices from coast-to-coast.
  • Earning Tilson a place on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies for a rare seven consecutive years.
  • Earning Tilson the distinction of “Maine and New England Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year” from the U.S. Small Business Administration in 2017.

To date, nearly 50% of Tilson’s workforce is comprised of veterans.

“I am profoundly honored to receive this award and to represent our teams who are hard at work across the country building America’s information infrastructure,” Broder said in a news release.

Tilson is a high-growth company based in Portland that provides information technology services and network deployment for government and industry.

It has 360 employees working out of offices in Manchester, N.H.; Syracuse, N.Y.; Clifton, N.J.; Denver, Colo.; Parker, Colo.; Portland, Ore.; Foley, Ala.; Henderson, Nevada; Fayetteville, Ga.; Las Cruces, N.M.; Tampa, Fla.; Los Angeles, Cal.; and Montpelier, Vt.
