Building Business: A statewide roundup of construction-related news

Warren Construction, Freeport, is building the Roux Center for the Environment at Bowdoin College, a 29,000-square-foot building at the corner of Harpswell Road and College Street. It will house classrooms, teaching labs, research labs, faculty offices and conference rooms. The architect is Cambridge Seven Associates Inc. of Cambridge, Mass. A fall 2018 completion is planned. Also for Bowdoin, Warren did the work on the Edwards Center for Art and Dance building. Elsewhere, Warren recently completed construction on the Maine Coast Waldorf School's upper school in Freeport.

Construction/development notes

Sheridan Construction, with offices in Fairfield and Portland, is building the Mid-Coast School of Technology in Rockland, with a September 2019 completion expected. The architect is Lavallee Brensinger Architects of Manchester, N.H. Sheridan is also the contractor for the Alfond Youth Center and Family Wellness Center in Waterville. The architect is Harriman. Elsewhere, Sheridan is about 90% finished with the expansion Enercon Technologies facility in Gray; the architect on that project is Grant-Hays Associates. Coming up, Sheridan was awarded the construction management for the new academic building at Husson University in Bangor.

Zachau Construction, Freeport, recently finished the $28 million expansion of Tyler Technologies office space in Yarmouth. Zachau's other recent projects included the Patrons Oxford Insurance site in Portland and the Maine Beer Co. expansion in Freeport.

Cianbro has much of the steel framing in place on the future headquarters of WEX Inc. in Portland. The building will be 100,000 square feet with WEX as the lead tenant. Cianbro is also building Bangor Savings Bank's new waterfront headquarters in Bangor.

Hancock Lumber's acquisition of Mainely Trusses, Fairfield, makes it the first lumber retailer to have its own roof- and floor-truss manufacturing facility. Hancock Lumber is based in Casco.

New Height Group, developer of the Luminato condos in Portland, has plans for Verdante at Lincoln Park, which will have 31 condos near Federal and Franklin streets.

Landry/French Construction and Gawron Turgeon Architects are teaming up to build the new cPort Credit Union branch office at 35 Middle St., at the corner of India Street, in Portland. Landry/French most recently completed the Patriot Insurance Co. offices in Yarmouth.

Landry/French has also been named construction manager of a 14,000-square-foot adult day center planned by Memorial Hospital in Center Conway, N.H., the hospital announced Feb. 5. SMRT of Portland is the architect and HEB Engineers of North Conway is doing site design engineering and permitting.

Hannaford has plans for a new store, this time in the Five Corners area of Mechanic Falls. The 20,000-square-foot store is slated for completion in late 2018.

Vets First Choice plans a $20 million facility on the Portland peninsula, site and builder to be determined.

People in the news

Maya Bogh, co-owner and business manager of South Berwick's Great Northern Builders Inc., was named a “2017 Region A Young Professional” finalist by the National Association of Home Builders at the recent International Builders Show in Orlando, Fla.

Nick Gaddar has been promoted to project manager at Landry/French Construction.
