MMC also was recognized as "high performing" in the specialty of urology and in eight common procedures and conditions included in the annual survey of U.S. hospitals.

U.S. News & World Report released its 2018-19 Best Hospitals rankings today. The 29th annual rankings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care.

The rankings compared more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. This year, a total of 158 hospitals were nationally ranked in at least one specialty. More than 1,100 hospitals were rated high performing in at least one common procedure or condition, and 29 received a high performing rating in all nine procedures and conditions evaluated.

U.S. News also recognized the Best Regional Hospitals in 200 metro areas and regions across the U.S., ranking them based on their performance in delivering complex and common care. It created the Best Regional Hospitals survey in 2011 to provide consumers with a way to assess the overall care at hospitals in their areas.

Barely 10% of hospitals can call themselves a "Best Regional Hospital," according to the magazine.

"We are proud to receive this important recognition by U.S. News & World Report. It reflects our team's dedication to delivering high quality care every day," said MMC President and CEO Richard Petersen. "Thank you to all our colleagues for the work they do every day on behalf of our patients, and for continually seeking new and innovative ways to deliver the best possible care close to home."

MMC also received recognition as a "high performing" hospital in the specialty of urology. According to U.S. News, a hospital is rated "high performing" in a specialty category if it's scored in the top 10% nationwide.
