Portland approves changes to short-term rental rules

The Portland City Council approved changes to its short-term rental rules during its Nov. 19 meeting that will allow individual property owners to register up to five short-term rentals per year subject to the other restrictions in the ordinance.

The council also increased the cap on non-owner-occupied mainland short-term rental units from 300 to 400 units, and also made some changes to the application requirements and fee structure, according to a news release.

The new ordinance provisions will go into effect on Dec. 19, 30 days from the council’s approval.

City staff are currently accepting registrations for new units. Renewal applications are not due until Feb. 1, 2019, and the city will send out renewal notices in the middle of December with the new applications.
