Portland addiction treatment center is expanding its outpatient services

In a deal that closed Oct. 3, Spurwink sold the property to Bishop Holdings LLC for $1.15 million. The building now houses the new Pine Tree Recovery Center, which announced this week it's expanding its services to include a community-based intensive outpatient program.

Pine Tree Recovery Center, an addiction treatment detox facility in Portland, is expanding its services to include a community-based intensive outpatient program.

The new level of care will begin on March 11 and is expected to help Pine Tree Recovery Center better meet the substance-use-disorder needs of people in the greater Portland community.

Located at 17 Bishop St., Pine Tree Recovery Center is a 22-bed medically monitored detox facility offering a full range of addiction treatment services. It provides inpatient detox treatment and assists with sober living arrangements as part of its clients’ after-care services. Pine Tree also provides family therapy and group therapy providing additional support.

While residential inpatient treatment is appropriate for some clients, intensive outpatient services create a flexible option for others — in some cases shortening the inpatient stay.

Pine Tree Recovery Center's intensive outpatient program will operate from Monday to Thursday and will have the capacity to serve up to 30 individuals suffering from substance use disorder. This eight-to-12-week program will provide:

  • Transportation to and from groups
  • Nutritional services
  • Trauma-sensitive and gender-based groups
  • Alternative therapies including breath work, addiction and recovery yoga and acupuncture\
  • Hands-on medical and psychiatric care
  • Vivitrol services
  • Family-focused treatment
  • A comprehensive 12-step approach

The key difference between residential treatment and an intensive outpatient program is flexible scheduling, according to the news release announcing the new service.

“Clients can return home each evening and if they have careers or other obligations, treatment can ordinarily be scheduled around those obligations,” Pine Tree Recovery Center stated. “For people in recovery, intensive outpatient program can restore a sense of normalcy and routine without sacrificing individualized, intensive treatment.

"This program will serve as a vital resource for anyone in the Portland area in need of substance use treatment," said Pine Tree Recovery Center's Clinical Director Randi Bruneau.
