A rocky start to Bangor’s wedding season with shop closure
The abrupt closure of the Bangor-based bridal shop, House of Brides, last week and subsequent silence from its owner has some soon-to-be-brides out of their deposits — and scrambling to find a solution before the busy summer wedding season takes off.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Bangor police and the Maine Attorney General’s office have been fielding complaints about the sudden closure of House of Brides, with the subsequent disabling of the company’s Facebook page and business phone further adding to the ire of Bangor-area brides.
“My bridesmaids put complete confidence in me by putting deposits on bridesmaid gowns,” wrote Traci Lynne Richardson, one of the brides who took to the Facebook group “All Misled by House of Brides” to air her grievances. “I put complete confidence in this boutique to get these dresses ordered and here on time. We did exactly what was asked of us. And when the dresses were supposed to be in, I called to get an update only to learn that the money was gone, the store was closed and there were no dresses.”
According to the BDN, neither House of Brides nor its owner, Jill Hunter Smith, has filed for bankruptcy in the state. The BDN reports that Smith’s cell phone has been disconnected and that attempts to contact the business owner have so far been unsuccessful.
