Bangor businesses hampered by construction work

Some businesses in downtown Bangor say they have been hurt by the ongoing construction work at West Market Square.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the $1.27 million revamping of West Market Square, which began in April, is expected to finish by early September.

Businesses that have been impacted by the construction include the Charles Inn and its Big Easy Bar, the Ipanema Bar & Grill and the Reverend Noble Pub.

“I get at least one cancellation a day due to the construction,” Connie Boivin, owner of the Charles Inn, told the newspaper. “There’s no way for people to get to me.”

Other businesses like Mexicali Blues and Paddy Murphy’s Pub said they haven’t experienced any issues. “On the whole, we haven’t seen an impact on business from the construction,” Julie Baker Leaden, manager of Mexicali Blues, told the BDN.
