Catholic Charities lands $1.6M for treatment programs

Catholic Charities Maine said Monday that it received a federal contract worth $1.6 million to provide treatment programs in the Portland area.

The funding, which will be administered over five years starting April 1, will provide community-based outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment services. It will be administered to federal offenders confined in community-based programs and at home.

Programs will be operated out of Catholic Charities’ Substance Abuse & Mental Health Counseling Services division.

“This is an opportunity for Catholic Charities Maine to further expand our services to individuals with substance abuse and mental health issues who have the additional stigma of criminal justice involvement,” Carolee Lindsay, director of co-occurring and substance-abuse services, said in a prepared release.

“This contract is a tremendous testament to the quality of services our team provides in this field and is in keeping with our mission to serve the most vulnerable populations here in Maine,” said CEO Stephen Letourneau.

Catholic Charities, which was founded in 1966, provides community-based social services to people of all faiths, beliefs and economic backgrounds.
