Coalition stakes out transportation bond support

A coalition of community and professional groups are meeting with little organized opposition in their support for a $51.5 million transportation bond measure on the November ballot.

The Associated Press reported that the group of around 20 community and professional groups held a press conference Wednesday in Hampden, the location of industrial hauler H.O. Bouchard Inc.

The AP reported that the company's traffic manager Irving Smith said the company's trucks travel 4.75 million miles in Maine every year and bad road conditions cost the company money.

The Road Information Program, based in Washington, D.C., recently issued a study making a similar case regarding the costs of poor road conditions in the state.
