Data: Portland, Bar Harbor plan more cruise visits in 2013

Portland is expected to see nearly 15,000 more cruise ship passengers pass through the city in 2013 than it did in 2012.

Interactive: See how Portland's cruise ship visit projections stack up historically and against other ports in the state in our chart below.

According to projections from the industry group CruiseMaine, Portland will add just three ships to the 57 visits it logged last year, but the number of expected passengers is set to jump from 67,758 last year to 82,087 in the year ahead.

Bob Leeman, director of port operations at the Port of Portland, said that the scheduling increases for the coming year don't reflect expected increases from the city's installation of a $6 million mega berth that welcomed its first ship in late 2011.

With 2012 as the first full year the city had the mega berth available, he said he expects 2014 will show stronger results from the addition, as cruise ships schedule their stops two years out.
