Deadline for Bucksport natural gas project extended

The first phase of a natural gas expansion project in downtown Bucksport is nearly complete, with only three residential customers awaiting connections.

Poor weather and unexpected amounts of ledge delayed the Bangor Gas project, which had been moving toward a Dec. 15 deadline, according to The Ellsworth American.

All in-town school properties belonging to RSU 25 and 62 residential customers were connected by the deadline, according to the town's economic development director, who told the paper he expects the remaining residential customers to be connected by year's end.

The town is expected to begin the second phase of the project in the spring. It will deliver natural gas service to the municipal buildings downtown. The school unit is expected to save $100,000 in heating costs this season through the conversion, the paper reported.
