Emery leaving LePage's team for private sector
David Emery, deputy commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, is resigning his post in the LePage administration to take a job in the private sector.
Emery, a Republican who represented Maine's 1st District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1975 to 1984, had been considered a likely replacement for LePage's top financial advisor, Finance Commissioner Sawin Millett, if the 74-year-old Millett were to retire, the Portland Press Herald reported.
Emery told the newspaper he will become chief operating officer of the SBD Group, a financial planning and business development consulting firm. His last day in the LePage administration is Friday.
Besides serving in the U.S. House, Emery made an unsuccessful U.S. Senate run against Democrat George Mitchell in 1982. He also finished third in a three-way Republican gubernatorial primary in 2005.
In naming Emery as deputy commissioner in the Department of Administrative and Finance Services in May 2011, Gov. Paul LePage indicated that one of Emery's duties would be to lead efforts to reform state government.
