First Wind sets up 19 turbines at Hancock Co. site

First Wind subsidiary Blue Sky East has completed construction on 19 wind power turbines in eastern Hancock County and is looking to build up to 36 in the region.

Township 16 is the site of the 19 turbines completed this week, the Bangor Daily News reported, and First Wind officials told the paper that 17 more turbines are planned for the neighboring unorganized territories of Township 16 and Township 22, pending permitting approval for those locations.

Each of the turbines completed this week are 476 feet tall and can generate up to 1.8 megawatts of electricity, potentially sending 34 megawatts of power into the region's electrical grid.

Dave Fowler, a senior land manager for the Mass.-based First Wind, told the BDN that he hopes the turbines can be turned on next week and be supplying power to Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. by the end of October.
