Founder of seafood processing plant looks to avoid impending auction

The founder of the Tenants Harbor-based seafood processing plant Sea Hag Seafood is hoping to avoid a planned auction for the plant’s property, building and equipment following its closure after less than four years in business.

In an email to the Bangor Daily News, Sea Hag founder Kyle Murdock wrote that the loss of most of the 2013 processing season due to electrical issues and the inability to secure funds for the construction of a wharf at the facility were contributing factors to the closure.

“With increasingly challenging market conditions, it became clear to us last fall that we needed to make changes to our business model and negotiate a new agreement with the property owner and our other creditors,” Murdock wrote to the BDN.

The auction is currently scheduled for June 17, according to the BDN.
