Freeport weighs changes in parking regulations

A regulation proposed in Freeport would reward businesses for sharing designated parking spaces.

That’s just one of the changes recommended by a parking task force for the retail-centered downtown, the Forecaster reported.

“All shared parking means is that you don’t put a sign up that says that this parking space is for this business, and this business only,” Town Planner Donna Larson told the Forecaster.

The reduction in parking spaces would apply to restaurants and retail establishments and would not change the required allotment of spaces for employees in the downtown.

The town council will consider the changes at a Jan. 2 hearing.
