Great Northern Paper names new president

Great Northern Paper Co., based in East Millinocket, has selected paper industry veteran Ned Dwyer as the company's next president.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Dwyer began this week at the mill acquired and restarted by Cate Street Capital in late 2011.

Since that time, the investment firm has backed new ventures into torrefied wood, or "biocoal," which it plans to ship to existing European markets and developing markets in Maine. The biocoal can be used to generate heat.

Richard Cyr, the CEO of Great Northern Paper and biocoal affiliate Thermogen Industries, has held the post of acting president of the paper mill through 2012 following the resignation of Peter Hanson.

Dwyer, a U.S. Air Force veteran, previously held jobs at International Paper, E.B. Eddy and Weidmann.
