Greenville ski area to reopen this season

The nonprofit Friends of Squaw Mountain are set to reopen Greenville's Big Squaw Mountain to skiing this season after landing a $1, one-year lease with the ski area's owner, James Confalone.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the group hopes to have the mountain's lower ski lift inspected and ready to run by Jan. 18, which would mark the first time in three years that the mountain has been open to skiing.

In two weeks since the nonprofit group committed to reopening the ski area, the paper reported, it has taken in $18,000 in donations or pledges to bring the ski area back on-line.
