Home sales rise 4% in December

Home sales in Maine ended the year with a more than 4% bump over 2010, according to the Maine Real Estate Information System Inc.

A total of 794 existing single-family homes were sold in Maine in December, a 4.3% increase over December 2010. The median sales price, however, fell nearly 7% to $160,000. December marks the sixth consecutive month that home sales increased year over year.

In the Northeast, home sales rose 3.3% while the median sales price fell 2.7% to $231,300. Nationally, sales were up 4.3% and the median price fell 2.5% to $165,100.
