Hotel owner sues Manpower over alleged bad hire

Adamar Associates, owner of the Ramada Conference Center in Lewiston, filed a lawsuit Monday against staffing firm Manpower for what the hotel owner said was a failure to properly screen an employee convicted of embezzling more than $80,000 from the hotel in 2012.

The Sun Journal reported the hotel claims Manpower knowingly misrepresented 39-year-old Carrie Richardson’s suitability for the job and failed to adequately screen her for a job as the hotel’s office manager and bookkeeper.

Richardson, who was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of felony theft in Maine, was wanted in 2011 by police in San Diego, Calif., on charges that she stole more than $100,000 from a Pop Warner football league in Escondido. Richardson had worked for the hotel from January 2012 through December 2012.
