Hulit tapped as interim head of SBA

U.S. Small Business Administrator Karen Mills has selected Jeanne Hulit, a former economic development official in Maine, to serve as the agency’s acting administrator, a Cabinet-level position.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Mills plans to step down at the end of the month to take jobs at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and its Business School.

Hulit’s climb to the top spot at the SBA has roots in Maine, where she previously served as a senior vice president for commercial lending at Citizens Bank and as a deputy director of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. After those jobs, Hulit joined the SBA as the regional administrator for New England and then became an associate administrator for the agency’s Office of Capital Access.

Hulit will remain in the Cabinet-level position until President Obama nominates a new administrator.
