Husson marks Southern Maine expansion

The Bangor-based Husson University has invested $6 million in a new southern Maine campus in Westbrook, where 215 students are enrolled this spring.

The Portland Press Herald reported the university planned to mark the official opening of its new campus today, which began holding classes Jan. 21 after moving out of an 11,000-square-foot leased space in South Portland in December.

The university’s new 34,000-square-foot building was formerly occupied by United Healthcare and now includes 15 classrooms, a computer lab, offices and a student lounge, the paper reported. The building has two other tenants, SymQuest Group and HNTP Corp.

Westbrook Mayor Colleen Hilton told the paper that she anticipates working with the university and local businesses like Idexx Laboratories and Unum to improve work force development programs.
