New hires

CEI in Wiscasset recently hired Elizabeth Rogers as director of marketing and communications.

Broadreach Public Relations, a communications firm in Portland, recently hired Jillian Kanter as public relations executive assistant. Previously, Kanter interned at two public relations firms in the Boston area.

WEX Inc., a corporate payment solutions company in South Portland, recently hired Stephen Crowley as senior vice president, shared services and chief information officer. Crowley previously was senior vice president, mortgage and affiliate services strategy and execution at Bank of America.

Murray, Plumb & Murray, a law firm in Portland, recently hired attorney Stacey Neumann. Most recently, Neumann served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Portland, where she was the Project Safe Childhood coordinator.

Northeast Delta Dental in Saco recently hired Crystal Carroll as manager of community relations. Carroll previously provided media relations support to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund in Boston.

Maine Audubon in Falmouth recently hired Eric Topper as education director. Topper previously worked at Maine Adaptive Sports, Camp Ketcha and Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center in Boston.

Saint Joseph’s College Online in Standish recently hired Sherrie Winton as program director for general studies. Winton was previously the training and education coordinator at New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Magnusson Balfour Commercial & Business Brokers in Portland recently hired Victor Tedford as a sales agent. Tedford previously worked for Hannaford.

Bates College in Lewiston recently hired Crystal Ann Williams as associate vice president and chief diversity officer effective Nov. 4. Williams is currently dean for institutional diversity and a faculty member in creative writing at Reed College in Portland, Ore.

Mid Coast Health Services in Brunswick recently hired Linda MacMillan as associate director of development. MacMillan was previously the vice president of marketing at People’s United Bank.

Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington recently announced that Gabriel Civiello will join Franklin Health Pediatrics and Jennifer Zeliger will join the staff of Franklin Health Women’s Care in September. Civiello was previously chief resident at Maine Medical Center while Zeliger recently completed a four-year obstetrics and gynecology residency at Maine Medical Center.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, recently hired Emily Kahn as a shareholder in the firm’s energy law practice group. Previously Kahn was senior legal counsel at Wheelabrator Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of Waste Management Inc., in Hampton, N.H.

Global Spectrum recently hired Danielle Dorrie as conference sales manager at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Dorrie was previously membership and convention sales coordinator with the Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Penobscot Bay Press, a newspaper company in Stonington, recently hired Benjamin Barrows as general manager and George Eaton as support tech in the graphics and technology departments. Barrows was previously with the Emergency Response Team at the International Rescue Committee, a nonprofit based in New York. Eaton was most recently a retail manager for an interior design company in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Maine Community Foundation recently hired Peter Rothschild as chief information officer. Rothschild, a founding partner at Quennell Rothschild & Partners, a land planning and design firm in Manhattan, was previously chair of the foundation’s investment committee. Elizabeth Hilpman, a partner at Barlow Partners, an investment advisory firm specializing in long/short equity funds in New York, will replace Rothschild as chair of the foundation’s investment committee.

Willis of Northern New England Inc., in Lewiston recently hired Matthew LaFlamme as a commercial lines placement specialist.

H.M. Payson, a financial advisory firm in Portland, recently hired Camie Barrow as a relationship manager. Barrow most recently worked at Seaward Management in Boston.

Mercy Health System of Maine recently hired Rosa Mojdehi and Terry Gray. Mojdehi, who is certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, joined All About Women. Gray, who most recently served as a physician leader and partner in a large multistate anesthesia practice in southern New England, joined the staff of the Mercy Pain Center.

Bohan Mathers LLC, a law firm in Portland, recently hired Harry Bee and Peter Somerville. Bee will serve as an intellectual property paralegal while Somerville is a patent case manager.

MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta recently hired cardiologist Kevin White. White has provided diagnostic and therapeutic cardiology services to adult patients for more than 25 years.

Androscoggin Financial Services in Lewiston recently hired Cameron Leary as a financial adviser.

Promotions

TD Bank recently promoted Nicholas Weightman to small business relationship manager in Portland and John Tribou to relationship manager in Bangor. Weightman was previously assistant vice president, commercial credit analyst II. Tribou was previously a branch manager in Houlton.

CEI in Wiscasset recently promoted Sheila Havey and Leslie Malone. Havey, previously the volunteer coordinator, was promoted to data coordinator. Malone, previously a fund accountant, was promoted to senior staff accountant.

Salem Advisory Group LLC, an investment and insurance agency in Wells, recently promoted Warren Berger to president and chief compliance officer. Berger is a Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant with over 30 years of industry experience.

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution recently promoted Kenda Bouffard to retail loan underwriter.

PowerWise Systems, a building intelligence systems company in Blue Hill, recently promoted Ray Toothaker to president and COO. Toothaker was previously vice president.

Appointments

University of Southern Maine Board of Visitors recently selected Denise Taaffe as chair and Tony Payne as vice chair. Taaffe is a CPA and director of the audit practice at Baker Newman Noyes in Portland. Payne is the business development director for Clark Insurance in Portland.

United Way of Eastern Maine recently announced John Dougherty as its campaign cabinet chair and Gregory Sirois as vice chair. Dougherty is president of Dougherty Project Management. Sirois is senior vice president and retail regional manager for Bangor/North at Camden National Bank.

Denise Nickerson, assistant vice president and loan officer for Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, was recently elected to the board of directors for the Maine Association of Mortgage Professionals for a three-year term.

The Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership recently announced that John Karp, the organization’s business growth coach, has been named to the board of directors of Nyle Systems LLC, a lumber and heat pump company in Brewer.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins recently announced that Kris Doody, CEO of Cary Medical Center in Caribou, was selected to the American Hospital Association’s board of trustees. The board is the policy-making body of the AHA and has authority for the governance and management of its direction and finances.

Albin, Randall & Bennett, a CPA firm in Portland, recently announced that David Jean was elected to serve as president of the Real Estate and Construction Advisors Association. Jean, who will serve a two-year term, is a principal with the firm specializing primarily in financial accounting and consulting for construction, manufacturing and real estate development companies.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, announced that the American Board of Trial Advocates recently elected Bill Knowles as a member. Only 30 trial lawyers in Maine are members of this invitation-only organization.

Achievements

Affordable Colleges Online recently ranked the University of New England second in student return on investment among 43 public and private colleges and universities in Maine, including four-year, degree-granting, fully accredited nonprofit institutions.

The New England Clean Energy Council Institute recently announced Pika Energy of Westbrook and SeaChange Group of Cape Elizabeth were winners of the latest Cleantech Innovations New England startup challenge award. Each company received $30,000 in funded services.

Avesta Housing’s Park Street School in Kennebunk was recently named a finalist in the 2013 Affordable Housing Finance Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards in the category of Rural Housing.

Baker Newman Noyes, a CPA and consulting firm in Portland, recently announced Jen Horton earned her professional human resources certification and Ilona Romanenko earned her project management professional credential. Horton is a human resources specialist and Romanenko is the senior manager of the firm’s risk and business advisory practice. The firm also recently earned a bronze medal in the Business to Business Corporate category from Horizon Interactive Awards, an international competition, for its website that was launched last year.

The Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation recently ranked the Rehab Unit at The Aroostook Medical Center in the top 10% of nearly 800 rehabilitation facilities across the United States.

MPX, a print services company in Portland, was recently presented with two print excellence and knowledge awards by the Print Services & Distribution Association. The company received recognition in the print category for best digital solution for its work with The Bank of Maine and in the supply chain solution in the fulfillment category for its work with FairPoint Communications.

The Portland Museum of Art announced that Julia Einstein, assistant director of family and studio learning, was recently accepted to participate in TIME 2013, the Teaching Institute in Museum Education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Only 15 candidates were selected from a national pool of applicants.

Richard Desjardins, manager of Cross Café in Augusta, was recently awarded the James R. Schmidt Award at Kennebec Behavioral Health’s 53rd Annual Meeting. The award is presented to an individual improving the quality of life for adults who experience mental illness.

Terry Porter, an associate professor at the University of Maine’s Business School, recently received a Fulbright Scholarship for research at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom in spring 2014. Porter will focus on the social processes of sustainability adoption in business.

The Maine Small Business Development Centers recently selected Michael Kasputes as the 2013 State Star. Kasputes, a certified business counselor at the Maine SBDC, University of Southern Maine in Portland, captured the award for his commitment to small business success.

The Maine Wood Products Association recently presented its Pine Tree Award to Maine Wood Concepts, a family owned and operated custom wood products company in New Vineyard.

BerryDunn, a CPA and management consulting firm in Portland, announced that Arthur Marshall Jr., Seth Webber and Lydia Atwood recently received the certified valuation analyst credential from the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts. Marshall and Webber are senior managers and Atwood is a manager in the firm’s valuation and forensic services group.

Mercy Hospital in Portland was recently awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Nuclear Medicine after a recent review by the American College of Radiology.

Pam Bolduc, general manager of the Olive Garden in South Portland, was recently presented the Joe R. Lee Diamond Club Award by Darden Restaurants. The award is presented annually for customer service and financial performance.

The Chalmers Insurance Group in Bridgton announced that Dottie Chalmers-Cutter was recently named the 2013 Maine Young Agent of the Year.

Bates College’s Dining Services in Lewiston recently earned a third star for its Green Restaurant sustainability rating from the Green Restaurant Association. Only five other U.S. colleges or universities have earned three-star ratings and the college is the only such institution in Maine.

Pet Product News International recently named Loyal Biscuit Co. in Rockland as the recipient of its 2013-2014 Outstanding Growth Award.

U.S. Small Business Administration recently awarded People’s United Bank the District Director award for overall top dollar volume in 2012. The bank ranked first in highest in dollar volume with more than 20 loans closed, a total of $6.9 million.

Wright-Pierce, an engineering firm in Portland, was recently selected for the 2013 Circle of Excellence by PSMJ Resources Inc., a management consulting firm for the architectural/engineering/construction industries.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, recently announced the selection of shareholder Gordon Grimes to The International Who’s Who of Energy Lawyers 2013. Grimes, the only attorney in Northern New England to receive the designation, was selected based on independent survey work with general counsel and private practice lawyers worldwide.
