New hires

First National Bank hired Andrew Farrar as assistant branch manager at its Ellsworth branch. Farrar was previously an assistant store manager at TD Bank.

Norton Financial Services in Cumberland Foreside hired Jamie Dumond as executive assistant. Dumond was previously executive assistant to the managing director with Eastdil Secured in San Jose, Calif.

Avesta Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing developer and property manager in Portland, hired Kate Cordaro as office manager and Gregory McKellar as facilities and maintenance manager. Cordaro was with Pearson Education in Hadley, Mass., while McKellar was with CBRE|The Boulos Co.

Skowhegan Savings Bank hired Steve Thomas as senior vice president of commercial lending. Thomas was previously senior vice president and director of commercial banking for northern Maine at Camden National Bank.

Community Credit Union in Lewiston hired Tristina Baril as a member representative.

Comfort Keepers, a provider of in-home senior care in Damariscotta, hired Stephanie Welton as a scheduler. Welton is also is part owner of the business.

MaineGeneral Surgery in Augusta hired Sam Pakraftar to provide surgical services at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta and the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville. Previously, Pakraftar was with St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa.

Franklin Savings Bank in Farmington hired Amanda Look as vice president, commercial banking officer at its business center in Ellsworth.

Sun Life Financial U.S. hired Cathy Liston as vice president claims, group and voluntary insurance. Liston was vice president, group disability and life claims at Prudential Financial.

People's United Bank in Portland hired Barbara Raths as senior vice president, senior relationship manager for government banking and Donna Temple as senior vice president, senior wealth management officer with its wealth management team. Raths was previously team leader for treasury at WEX Inc. in South Portland while Temple was with Bangor Savings Bank.

Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital hired William Fabricius as an oncologist. The medical center also hired Nir Harish as an emergency room physician.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust hired Donna Ewert as vice president and trust officer within Bar Harbor Trust Services, a subsidiary of the bank. Ewert, who is based in Topsham, was a wealth advisor at Robinson Smith Wealth Advisors in Portland.

The Portland Public Schools hired Alicia Gardiner as executive director of budget and finance. Gardiner is CFO for the city of Westbrook and will join the public school system in November.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra hired Andrew Crust as assistant conductor and community liaison.

Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corp. in Bangor, hired Christopher Hersey as vice president and treasurer for Cross Financial Corp.

Maine Audubon in Falmouth hired Andrew Beahm as deputy director. Most recently, Beahm served as vice president of business transformation at L.L.Bean.

Woodfords Family Services in Westbrook promoted Mark Eves to executive director. Eves, a trained marriage and family therapist who has 15 years of experience working in the field of behavioral health as both a clinician and administrator for statewide community organizations, is finishing his fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives and his second term as speaker of the House.

Scott Simons Architects in Portland hired Adam Wiles-Rosell as an architectural designer.

Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth hired Andrew Chadwick as executive chef of Sea Glass, the hotel's restaurant. Chadwick was an executive sous chef at the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod, Mass., where he managed all six of the resort's restaurants.

Hobbs Funeral Homes in South Portland hired Rachael Powers as a full-time apprentice.

L/A Arts, an arts agency for the Lewiston-Auburn area, hired Louise Rosen as consulting director. Rosen previously served as executive and artistic director of the Maine Jewish Film Festival.

The Maine Department of Labor hired John Feeney as director of the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation. Previously, Feeney served as the military director of the Navy Airworthiness and Cybersafe Office at the Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md.

MaineGeneral Obstetrics & Gynecology in Augusta hired Romeo Lucas. Lucas, who has special expertise in minimally invasive robotic surgery and uses a diversified, multidisciplinary approach to treat pelvic pain and endometriosis, was with Meridian Health System: Jersey Shore Obstetrics & Gynecology in Freehold, N.J.

PDT Architects in Portland hired Keegan Carmichael as an architect, Alyssa Phanitdasack and Nick Conner as architectural designers, and Kirsten Stolte as administrative assistant.

James D. Julia Inc., a Fairfield auction house that specializes in antiques, hired Tony Wilcox as a member of its fine firearms division. Wilcox previously operated his own firearms business in Virginia.

Salem Advisory Group LLC in Wells hired Bill Rispoli as an investment advisor representative.

Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield hired Rhonda Harvey as faculty member for its Health Information Technology program. Harvey was program director/instructor of health information management at Northern Maine Community College.

Malone Commercial Brokers in Portland hired Andrew Ingalls as a broker. Previously, Ingalls was a broker with CBRE|The Boulos Co.

Quirk Insurance in Bangor hired Cynthia Rollins and Dorren Williamson. Both Rollins and Williamson were previously with Sargent, Tyler & West Insurance.

Promotions

KidsPeace, an Ellsworth nonprofit provider of mental and behavioral health services for children and families, promoted Michael Slack as COO and Matthew Koval executive vice president, chief medical officer. Slack was previously executive vice president of programs and development while Koval was vice president of medical affairs.

PeoplesChoice Credit Union in Saco promoted Susan Lavallee to branch manager II in Biddeford. Lavallee was previously the branch manager in Sanford.

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, announced E. William Stockmeyer will head the firm's public sector practice group. Stockmeyer will continue to serve as head of the firm's public finance sub-group.

Waltz Long Term Care Pharmacy in Brunswick promoted Courtney Doherty Oland to president and Amy Kelder Enos to director of pharmacy operations.

The Maine Development Foundation in Augusta promoted Anne Ball to interim program director for Maine Downtown Center. Ball has served as a consultant for the organization since 2012 and has been involved in the success of the Healthy Maine Streets Program, Grants to Green and Making Headway in Your Community.

The Portland Public Schools promoted Sharon Pray to serve as interim chief academic officer for the 2016-17 school year and Deborah Mullis to interim director of student support services. Pray was the district's director of student support services while Mullis was assistant director of student support services.

Appointments

The Freeport Economic Development Corp. elected Daniel Kleban to its board. Kleban is co-founder of Maine Beer Co. in Freeport.

The Maine Estate Planning Council in Portland announced that Joseph Powers, UBS Financial Services, will serve as president; Robin Cyr, Albin Randall & Bennett, vice president; Kerry Peabody, Clark Insurance, treasurer; Timothy Woodhouse, Acadia Trust N.A., secretary; and Jennifer Kruszewski, Epstein & O'Donovan LLP, immediate past president for the 2016-17 fiscal year.

John Nelson, CFO of Wright-Pierce, an engineering consulting firm in Portland, was appointed vice chair and treasurer of the American Council of Engineering Companies' Executive Committee for the 2016-18 term.

Achievements

Leo Bourgeault, a broker associate affiliated with the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Saco, was named to the 2016 REAL Trends America's “Best Real Estate Agents” list, a ranking report that identifies the most productive real estate agents by state and metropolitan area based on closed transaction “sides” and sales volume. Bourgeault was ranked No. 25 for the state of Maine based on transaction sides, closing 54.6 sides in 2015.

Hall Internet Marketing in Portland said it has been accepted as a verified Gold Level WooExpert from the ecommerce platform WooCommerce. The firm is one of just 10 agencies globally and the only agency in New England to be given the distinction which recognizes top web development agencies using the popular platform.

Kyle Santosuosso, a flight paramedic with LifeFlight in Camden, received a 2016 Next Step Maine Employee of Promise Scholarship to support his pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services Management at Anna Maria College.

Gillian Tuck, an account manager in the employee benefits group of Clark Insurance in Portland, earned the designation Accredited Customer Service Representative for Life & Health while Pamela Cantlin, a senior account manager in the firm's business insurance department, earned the designation Management Liability Insurance Specialist, a specialized curriculum focused specifically on directors and officers liability, employment practices liability and fiduciary liability insurance.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, said Mark Googins, a partner with the firm, recently co-authored the Maine chapter of the American Bar Association's “Commercial Lending Law, Second Edition: A Jurisdiction-by-Jurisdiction Guide to U.S. and Canadian Law.” The guide was updated to include all 50 U.S. states and Canada, as well as to reflect new developments in statutory and case law as they pertain to commercial lending's growth since the recession in 2008. U.S. News & World Report named Maine Medical Center in Portland a “Best Regional Hospital.” In its 2016-17 survey of U.S. hospitals, it also recognized the hospital as one of only 63 out of more than 4,500 hospitals in the nation, and the only one in Maine, to be rated high performing across the board in nine procedures and conditions. In addition the hospital was recognized as high performing in nine out of nine procedures and conditions including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.

Scott Simons Architects in Portland announced that Kayla Casperonis Caron completed the Architect Registration Examination and is now a licensed architect in the state of Maine.
