New hires

Air & Water Quality Inc., a water treatment and radon-mitigation firm in Freeport, hired Will Chappell as operations manager. Chappell was plant manager at Olympic Industries in Memphis, Tenn.

SeniorsPlus, an agency on aging located in Lewiston, hired Holly Zielinski as director of community services.

Northbridge Cos. announced several new hires at four of its senior living communities in Maine. James Santana was hired as executive director at Avita of Stroudwater in Westbrook; Pota Douzepis Schott as executive director at Avita of Wells; Gary Currier as executive director and Bethany Tyler as sales director at Avita of Brunswick; Mary Willson as sales director and Catherine Studley as community liaison at Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook; and Brigit Cavanagh as sales director at Sunnybrook Senior Living in Brunswick.

The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor hired Catherine Longley as vice president and CFO. Longley was previously senior vice president for finance and administration and treasurer at Bowdoin College.

Ransom Consulting Inc., an environmental consulting and engineering firm in Portland, hired Michaela Davis as an administrative assistant and Michelle Devoe as a project scientist.

Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine Trade Association in Augusta hired Kim Printy as executive director. Printy was most recently with the NH Therapeutic Cannabis Program as the master grower and CIP production manager for Sanctuary ATC.

S.W. Cole Engineering Inc. in Bangor hired Matthew Taylor as a senior geologist. Taylor was a senior project manager at AMEC Foster Wheeler.

The Maine Department of Labor in Augusta hired Kerry Gross as director of the Employer Services Division at the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation. Gross was previously a senior disability benefits specialist for Unum.

The Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth hired Becky Hayes Boober as vice president of community impact. Boober, currently senior program officer at the Maine Health Access Foundation, will start her new position in June.

Black Fly Media in Portland hired Diana Ichton as director of public relations and content strategy. Ichton was previously a senior public relations executive at Industrium.

Hall Internet Marketing in Portland hired Andrew Chernosky as a developer.

TD Bank hired Bart Gillespie as assistant vice president and store manager in Yarmouth. Gillespie was general manager at Best Buy in South Portland.

Promotions

Mortgage Network Inc. promoted Alexander Brockway to loan officer and sales assistant in Portland. Brockway was previously a loan processor.

Northbridge Companies, a senior housing and services provider, promoted Courtney Freeman to senior executive director at Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook and Ashley Freeman to business office manager at Sunnybrook Senior Living in Brunswick.

Morgan Stanley promoted Mark Leighton to senior vice president, financial advisor and Gary Bergeron to vice president, financial advisor in the firm's wealth management office in Portland.

The Maine Department of Labor in Augusta promoted Edward Upham to director of the Bureau of Employment Services, Nichole Jamison to Northern Regional CareerCenter manager and Mary Kozicki LaFontaine to Southern Regional CareerCenter manager. Upham was previously manager of the Bangor CareerCenter, Jamison was manager for the Machias and Calais CareerCenters and Kozicki LaFontaine managed the Lewiston CareerCenter.

Bath Savings Institution promoted Barbara Tuttle, an assistant vice president, to branch manager in Bath and Melissa Libby to branch manager in Yarmouth.

Sargent Tyler & West, an independent insurance agency in Bangor, promoted Scott Adams to personal lines director, Cyndi Rollins to commercial lines director and Shelley Tozier to sales director.

TD Bank promoted Ellen Niewoehner to senior relationship manager in commercial lending in Portland. Niewoehner was most recently a relationship manager in commercial lending.

John Turner Consulting Inc., an engineering consulting firm in Portland, promoted Matthew Taylor to director of the Northern New England Division and Travis Carpenter to director of geotechnical and environmental engineering.

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston announced several promotions. Jennifer Seekins and Jeff Smith were promoted to senior vice president; Jacqueline Curtis, Jeremy Deering, Steven English, Eric Hansen, Torri Jones, Melissa Knutson to vice president; and Carly Beaudin, Kelly Beckim, Lisa Bilodeau, Melodie Cyr, Melissa Farinas, Genevieve Hering, Tracy Jarvis, Ryan Landry, Ruth Martin, Lucille McIntyre, Deborah McPhail, Melissa Runstrom, Karen Shaw, David Smirles, Denise Tabet and Darren Williams to assistant vice president. In addition, Julie Buffington was promoted to regional retail sales and service manager. Buffington, a vice president, was previously commercial loan officer. Britany Hustus was promoted to vice president of commercial loan processing.

Preservation Management Inc., a residential property management firm in South Portland, promoted Christine Jenkinson to president and CEO and Kris Landry to regional vice president of operations. Jenkinson, who has 17 years of experience in the affordable housing industry, was previously senior vice president and COO while Landry joined the firm as a property manager in 2009.

CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange, a study abroad and intercultural exchange organization in Portland, promoted Tim Propp to COO. Propp was CFO.

National Distributors Inc. in South Portland promoted Tim Longstaff to president. Longstaff, previously the company's general manager, replaces Jeffrey Kane, who announced his retirement. Kane will remain with the company as a shareholder.

Appointments

The Maine Health Access Foundation, a nonprofit health care foundation in Augusta, announced the election of Ed Miller to its board of trustees. Miller currently serves as a policy consultant to the American Lung Association of the Northeast and is a past president of the Maine Public Health Association. In addition, Connie Sandstrom, former executive director of the Aroostook County Action Program, was elected board chair and the organization's Community Advisory Committee elected Peter Driscoll, executive director of Amistad, and Hannah Pingree, former speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, as new members.

Achievements

Morgan Stanley announced that James Olson, Glenn Parkinson and Lance Prichard attained Family Wealth Advisor designation. Olson is an associate vice president and financial advisor, Parkinson is a senior portfolio manager and financial advisor and Prichard is a senior investment management consultant and financial advisor in the firm's wealth management office in Portland. The firm also said that Josh Burns Jr. was named to The Financial Times' 2016 list of America's Top 400 Financial Advisors for a fourth consecutive year and that Todd Doolan was named to Barron's list of America's Top 1,200 Advisors: 2016 State-by-State. Burns is a family wealth director, financial advisor and Doolan is a senior vice president, senior portfolio management director, financial advisor in the firm's wealth management office in Portland.

North American Insurance Alliance named Tim Varney, president of the Varney Agency in Rangeley, its Agent of the Year for 2015.

TideSmart Global, a marketing and media firm in Falmouth, said that its Viridescent House was officially certified by Passive House Institute US, having met Passive House Building energy standards, an international standard of energy efficiency.

WCSH 6 in Portland and WLBZ 2 in Bangor received 12 nominations from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences: Boston/New England.

Maine Valuation Co. in Gorham announced that Bryan Plourde completed the requirements for the Certified General Real Property Appraiser license in the state of Maine.

The Alzheimer's Association Maine Chapter presented its annual awards. Felicia Garant received the Marilyn Paige Founders Award, Lea Rust the Collaborative Spirit Award, Cathy Walters the Robert Stram Award for Advocacy, Unum the Corporate Champion Award, John Koris the Marion Bennett Award for top individual Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraiser, Team Remembering Our Loved Ones the top Walk to End Alzheimer's Family Fundraising Team Award, Home Instead Senior Care - Gorham the top Walk to End Alzheimer's Business Fundraising Team Award and Pat and Mike Quinn and The Maine ACBL received the 2015 Longest Day Award.

Linda Vail of United Insurance in Portland was recognized for 25 years of professional leadership and advanced knowledge by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, a national insurance professional organization.

Jack Van Paepeghem was one of six people in the world to attain Advanced Cicerone certification, the new third level of certification between Certified Cicerone and Master Cicerone. Van Paepeghem works at Oxbow Brewing Co. in Portland and is also the curriculum coordinator for The Maine Brew Bus.

Chimani Inc., a Portland developer of mobile app guides to the outdoors and National Parks, is featured in the May issue of Outside magazine.

Maine Coast Heritage Trust in Topsham named Tom Settlemire as its 2016 Espy Land Heritage Award winner for conservation efforts in Maine. Settlemire, a professor emeritus of biology and biochemistry at Bowdoin College, is a former president and current member of the board of directors of the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust.

The Marginal Way Preservation Fund in Ogunquit was recognized with a Yankee Magazine Editor's Choice award for “Best of New England 2016” in its May/June issue.

The national patient safety watchdog The Leapfrog Group awarded Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington an “A” grade by Hospital Safety Score, ranking the hospital among the safest hospitals in the U.S.

HealthReach Community Health Centers in Waterville was recognized with the 2016 Quality Improvement Leadership Award at the annual Maine Quality Counts Conference. The recognition is presented to highlight efforts and to distinguish leaders who are dedicated to advancing health care quality for the people of Maine.

The French American Chamber of Commerce, New England named Memory-Lane.Tv its Company of the Year Award winner as the premier start-up in the Chamber's New England region. Memory-Lane.Tv, a media-based system of palliative care for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias designed by Dreamland Technology in Portland, is designed to stimulate an individual's memories and to reduce the disease's associated stress and agitation through the application of an integrated program of multi-sensory stimulation and planned caregiver engagement.

The Penobscot Energy Recovery Co., a waste-to-energy facility in Orrington, was selected by the New England Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to receive an Environmental Merit Award in recognition of its work and commitment to the environment.

Peter Schroeter was inducted as a charter member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals' Maine Chapter, an honor given to the state's leading practitioners for Excellence in the field of Dispute Resolution. Schroeter is an attorney at Shaheen & Gordon PA, a law firm in Saco.
