New hires

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston hired Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte as vice president, senior risk manager; Mara Pressman as vice president, Southern Maine market manager in Portland; Heather Verrill as assistant vice president, retail manager in Auburn and Gray; and Timothy Welch as assistant vice president, retail manager in Lewiston and Lisbon Falls.

Northern Light Cancer Care in Bangor hired Subha Mazzone as a pediatric oncologist.

Avesta Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing developer and property manager in Portland, hired Marcella Bryant as strategic planning and research officer and Michael Rayder as associate director of development. Bryant was previously director of data and evaluation at The Community Builders in Boston while Rayder was TD Charitable Foundation Manager.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, hired Andrew Zulieve as a senior attorney. Zulieve will operate from the firm's Waldoboro office focusing his practice in the areas of intellectual property law, business law, contract law and construction law.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, hired Hans Eysenbach as an energy attorney and Elizabeth Johnston as an employment attorney. Both Eysenbach and Johnston previously served as a law clerk to the Hon. Justice Andrew Mead on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.

Gov. Janet Mills hired Elise Baldacci and Bethany Beausang as senior policy advisors; Dorian Cole as director of constituent correspondence; Martha Currier as director of constituent casework; Michael Perry as special assistant to the Governor and chief of staff; Melissa O'Neal as director of boards and commissions; Derek Langhauser as chief legal counsel; and Linda Pistner as deputy legal counsel in the Office of the Governor.

Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice in Lewiston hired Myra Ross as staff physician for its hospice and palliative care program, Kristin Melville as director of marketing and development, Katherine Sperl as chief administrative officer and Dottie Sargent Carroll as director of compliance and performance improvement.

Machias Savings Bank hired Ryan Callahan as branch manager in Bangor.

Porta & Co., a commercial real estate services firm in Portland, hired Charles Day as partner. Day, who has 15 years of experience in commercial real estate, was previously a broker at The Boulos Co.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington hired Lynette Weeman as a cardiologist. Weeman is affiliated with Maine Medical Partners — MaineHealth Cardiology.

Norway Savings Bank hired Gary Bellegarde as vice president, commercial lending. Bellegarde has 21 years of financial lending experience.

Berman & Simmons, a law firm in Lewiston, hired Adam Arguelles as an attorney representing clients in medical malpractice, wrongful death and personal injury cases. Most recently, Arguelles clerked for Judge John A. Woodcock Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of Maine.

Promotions

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston promoted Dawn Youland to Central Maine market manager. Youland was previously retail manager.

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, promoted Michael Buescher and Julia Pitney to shareholders. Buescher represents public schools and private sector employers in Maine in all aspects of labor law, employment law and school law while Pitney is a trial attorney who represents clients in a wide range of civil litigation matters in State and Federal Court.

Sebago Technics, an employee-owned, engineering and surveying consulting firm in South Portland, promoted Josh Eon to project surveyor.

The Maine Community College System promoted David Daigler to president for an initial two-year term. Daigler, who was vice president and CFO, succeeds Derek Langhauser, who accepted a position to serve as chief legal counsel to Gov. Janet Mills.

Appointments

Avesta Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing developer and property manager in Portland, added Jeffrey Shaw, president of Clark Insurance; Renee Fay-LeBlanc, chief medical officer at Greater Portland Health; and Katherine Griffin, partner at Toole, Powers & Griffin PA, to its board of directors.

Kerry Peabody, a long term care and life and disability insurance agent at Clark Insurance in Portland, was appointed to the Certification for Long-Term Care Board of Advisors. The board provides strategic guidance on the development and improvement of the CLTC professional designation, training materials and exam.

Eaton Peabody, a law firm in Bangor, said Mariah Mitchell, a real estate associate in the firm's Brunswick office, was appointed to the Board of Girls on the Run Maine.

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, announced Hannah King, co-chair of the firm's regulated substances practice, was appointed to the State of Maine Marijuana Advisory Commission by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sara Gideon. King was appointed as a representative of Maine's adult use marijuana industry.

Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough voted in Robert Bauman, Moya Elliot, Joan Fink, Jill Hibyan, Nathan Howell, Samuel Ladd, Michael Roy and Mark Vogelzang as 2019 Corporators.

John McNulty was elected to serve a one-year term as president of the Society of American Foresters, a national organization that represents and serves 11,000 forestry professionals in the U.S. McNulty, who will continue serving on the board of directors for the next two years, including as chair in 2019, is president and CEO of Seven Islands Land Co., a forest management company in Bangor.

Katahdin Bankshares Corp., parent company of Katahdin Trust Co. in Houlton, added Marianna Putnam Liddell and Keith Bourgoin to its board of directors. Liddell is a partner at Pierce Atwood LLP, a law firm in Portland, while Bourgoin is managing partner at Haverlock, Estey & Curran LLC, an accounting firm in Hampden.

Achievements

The Maine Arts Commission announced that seven Maine artists received its $5,000 “Maine Artist Fellowship Awards.” Recipients included Diana Cherbuliez, Vinalhaven, visual arts; Lynn Duryea, Deer Isle, Belvedere handcraft; Jennifer Lunden, Portland, literary arts; Jan Owen, Belfast, craft arts; Sarah Sockbeson, Kingfield, traditional arts; Daniel Sonenberg, Portland, performing arts; and Thomas Willey, Southwest Harbor, media arts. In addition, apprenticeship recipients were: Jawad Al Fatlawi, master, and Ghasssan Al Hamdany, apprentice, Middle Eastern Music; Brian Theriault, master snowshoe maker, and Benjamin Latvis, apprentice, crafting traditional Maine snowshoes; Atiya Haji and Khadija Ibrahim, master basketmaker and textile arts, and Malyn Negye and Halima Mohamed, apprentices, Somali Bantu traditional arts; Thomas Cote, master woodcarver, and Kennedy Bancivenga, apprentice, Acadian woodcarving; and Jeffrey Allan Miller, master blacksmith, and Hannes Dale Moll, apprentice.

Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast was named a “Top Rural Hospital” by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care and the hospital's capacity to prevent medication errors.

Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership in Augusta said that Mariah Cunningham-Knaus, operations coordinator, completed the Emerging Leadership program of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Manufacturing Extension Partnership. The year-long leadership training program provides an opportunity for participants to conduct in-depth research about critical issues facing manufacturing.

Colby College in Waterville received LEED platinum certification for Grossman Hall and a SITES certification for its outdoor competition center.

Harriman, an architecture firm in Auburn, said Jamie Ouellette, a project manager in the firm's K-12 education studio, is now a licensed architect in the state of Maine and Matt Strong, a member of the firm's mechanical engineering studio, is now a licensed professional engineer in the state of Maine.

The Maine Public Relations Council in Portland announced its “2018 Professional Achievement Awards” and “Golden Arrow Awards.” Individual award winners included Paul Badeau, New England marketing manager at FirstLight, “Edward L.
