Keliher confirmed as marine resources commissioner

Patrick Keliher has been confirmed as commissioner of the Maine Department of Marine Resources, after holding the acting commissioner post since July.

Gov. Paul LePage nominated Keliher earlier this month, and the Legislature's Marine Resources Committee unanimously voted yesterday to confirm his appointment, according to the Portland Press Herald. Keliher took over commissioner responsibilities when previous head Norm Olsen resigned after six months in the job, citing the governor's lack of support.

Keliher joined the department in 2007 as director of sea run fisheries and habitat. Previously, he served as executive director of the Atlantic Salmon Commission and head of the Coastal Conservation Association, Greater New England.
