Kumisczca resurrects TechMaine as for-profit

A former executive director of the defunct nonprofit technology trade group TechMaine has given a second life to the organization, this time as a for-profit venture.

The organization aims to be a hub for Maine's technology community with a website that revives TechMaine's industry job board and hopes to launch a new series of online training courses, according to the Bangor Daily News.

After 13 years at TechMaine, Joe Kumisczca left the organization in early 2011 and witnessed from afar the organization's descent into bankruptcy months later. In June, Kumisczca bought back the organization's assets and has since relaunched the organization's website, according to the newspaper.

Kumisczca told the paper that the new business model moves the business away from reliance on membership dues, which he credited with the nonprofit's ultimate downfall.
