Lewiston nonprofit Outsource Works to close
Outsource Works, a Lewiston-based nonprofit that performed assembly work for area businesses and helped employ people who had trouble finding jobs, will close at the end of the month, a result of the tough economy.
The organization performed light manufacturing work for regional businesses that needed extra help, and also provided flexible work hours for people who had trouble getting a more traditional job, like single mothers, older workers or those recently out of jail.
Board President Mary Lou Hofmann told the Sun Journal the organization had only 23 to 27 pieceworkers, down from the more than 100 it once employed, and 10 employees. She said more of its customers began doing assembly work in-house to provide work for their employees, and that anticipated funding fell through. It did not receive a Community Development Block Grant this year as it has for the past few years.
It was founded in 1997 as Faithworks.
