Lincoln mill explosion forces temporary shutdown

The explosion of a chemical recovery boiler that shook nearby houses temporarily shut down Lincoln Paper and Tissue over the weekend. The company reported no workers were injured and it continues to seek a cause for the incident.

The Bangor Daily News reported Bill Peterson, the mill’s personnel director and spokesman, said the company did not know over the weekend how much damage was done to the boiler and surrounding structure and would begin investigations after a 24-hour quarantine of the boiler to allow any potentially hazardous gases to dissipate.

Peterson had expected the mill to return to regular production by Sunday morning but a damage estimate remained unclear over the weekend.
