LNG terminal garners public support

Support for a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in Washington County was overwhelming at a public hearing yesterday, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The paper reports that of the 25 people who spoke at the meeting, held by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, only four spoke against Downeast LNG's proposal to build a LNG terminal on an 80-acre site on Passamaquoddy Bay in Robbinston. The purpose of the meeting was to collect public comments on a preliminary environmental impact statement on the project FERC released in May.

FERC will incorporate comments from the public hearing, and those submitted in writing by July 6, into the final environmental impact statement it expects to release in September, the Daily News reported.
