Maine Humanities Council gets $145,000 NEH grant

The Maine Humanities Council recently was awarded a $145,000 National Endowment for the Humanities grant in the new Humanities in the Public Square category.

Its project, “A Broad and Sure Foundation: The 14th Amendment in American Life and Imagination,” will give Mainers a chance to explore the amendment, especially the three key provisions of citizenship, due process and equal protection of the law, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The constitutional amendments were adopted immediately after the Civil War and have been called the basis of America’s second founding, according to the newspaper report.
