MOOMilk to continue processing

A Maine organic dairy company will continue operating, after news that it was suffering financial hardship resulted in numerous donations.

MOOMilk spokesman David Bright said last week that a lack of funding would force the company to suspend milk production as of Sunday, but subsequent donations from individuals and foundations provided enough money for it to sell its milk to two Maine food banks, according to The Associated Press. Bright also told The AP that the company has seen a rise in sales of its organic milk from six local farmers since last week.

The company, a cooperative of dairy farmers, formed last year after HP Hood opted not to renew its contract with 10 Maine dairy farmers and began selling milk in January.
